It could be alot worse..
Well, we went to the eye doctor today. In a nutshell, Cale has Patrick's eyes...just not as bad. He was diagnosed with ocular albinism http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocular_albinism , he has nystagmus, and he is nearsighted. His eyesight cannot be corrected completly but he still might be able to drive and live a totally normal life. Only time can tell. The doctor did say that in a few months Cale will have glasses. Patrick is really upset by this news. He feels at fault and he is scared that it will be really hard when Cale gets older...kids picking on him and stuff. I tried to reassure him that technology is different and he might have thinner glasses than Patrick did. We are also going to go to a genetisist to see what our chances are of having more children with albinism. We may not have as many children as we planned but I can guarntee that Cale will have at least one sibling.

Hi,
Your blog post showed up in my Google Alerts for albinism.
I live in the Kansas City area too. I have a 2 year old daughter who has albinism. You can see her here: http://www.parentofachildwithalbinism.com
Dr. Trudi Grin in Leawood is her pediatric ophthalmologist.
If you have any questions or ever just need to talk to someone, you are welcome to call me. If you send me an email, I will send you my phone number.
You may have already have this information, but if not, I highly recommend visiting the NOAH website at http://www.albinism.org

Growing up was rough for Patrick...he was picked on and teased. Not normal kid teasing...they were downright cruel.
Patrick is an exceptional man and I am proud to call him my brother. When he was little, the docs told my mom that he wouldn't be independent...Look at him now. I know that Cale will also become a fine man and hopefully have a lot of the character and morals that his dad has. But I am scared for his road to manhood. Not just for the medical but for the day to day. I pray that his is not as bad as Patrick's and that corrective lenses will help his eyesight.
Squish him for me!! I love you guys very much!
